I love seeing different depictions of the Hornblower characters so I was rather delighted to come across this 1951 Punch cartoon featuring HH, Mr Bush and Lady Barbara from Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N. I particularly like the image of Robert Beatty as Mr Bush. What do you think?

Well it's only taken fourteen years, but the A&E Hornblower Behind the Scenes footage has finally turned up on Youtube here. I've seen clips of this over the years but I've never seen the whole thing before and, as far as I know, it doesn't appear on any of the releases currently available in the UK. While there's no denying Paul McGann's indubitable charms, (I watched The Monocled Mutineer at an impressionable age and never quite recovered...) there's also something to be said for Robert Beatty's portrayal of Mr Bush.
